Patterns In Our World

Teddy Bears' Picnic

Last Monday we shared a Teddy Bears' Picnic in 1FR so that we could all share the same experience for our writing assessment. Thank you so much for remembering the Teddy Bears. Here are a few photos.

Patterns

During our Inquiry into patterns in our world we have been doing a lot of integrated Science exploration but once a week Mrs Mason takes the girls in small groups for a pure Science lesson.
Last week the girls looked at the patterns that can be found on our trees and leaves.  They investigated why the leaves have veins and how they use them.  Each girl made a lovely leaf rubbing form a leaf in the school, they then went off to find the tree it came from.

On Friday we designed our own artistic version of the veins in leaves.  We are creating an Autumn tree in our class... come and take a look!!

Also on Friday we were very lucky and we went to a concert!  Will Martin came and performed for us, he even play a One Direction song on the piano for us to sing along too :)

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

On Tuesday the school will be closing at 12.30pm as we have Parent Teacher interviews from 1pm.  If your daughter needs looking after till 3pm please email me and let me know asap.
A message from our Chaplin

Hello all,

The Offertory is the part of our worship at a Communion Service (where we have the bread and wine to remember Jesus) when a collection is taken.
An ‘offering’ is a gift we make to God in thanks for what we have received in life. We give because we have received so much.

At our Easter service we always take an offering but it is collected by your class Teacher before the service and brought with you to our service.

Please bring your gold coin offering next week so it will be ready for our Easter Service straight after the Easter break.

This year the offering will go to the projects at the Treasure House Orphanage in Fiji that some Year 6 girls will complete on their service trip in June.

Thanks,
Rev Moss & Rev Robertson

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

We have really enjoyed studying our caterpillars and watching the amazing process of them turning into chrysalises and then emerging as butterflies.

We have used our caterpillars to support our classroom learning in Writing, Reading, Maths and Science. On Friday the girls loved our Maths unit on measurement and algebra... possibly because it ended with them munching down Caterpillar Rolls!  We decorated our rolls with a very clever repeating pattern by using different seeds!

The following girls from the Dragonflies writing group wrote outstanding stories on the life cycle of a butterfly.
Alice

Emily

Sophie

Siobhan

As well as making repeated patterns we have begun to look at symmetry and painted half a butterfly and folded it in half to ensure the other half was exactly the same.

Kaitlyn, Millie, Sophia and Ria made these ones.

We took our butterflies up to the Rose Garden behind the Chapel to let our butterflies go. Shimmery was keen to visit the girls pinnies before we said good bye.

Patterns

Patterns

Last week we started a new Inquiry. The Central Idea is 'Exploring patterns helps us to understand the world we live in'.  On Wednesday morning we discussed the word 'pattern'  and tried to explain what patterns are.  We discovered that there are two types of patterns - nature patterns and man made patterns.  Mrs Mason our Science teacher brought in a basket with many patterns in it many of them were nature patterns.  Mrs Mason took us out on a pattern walk around the school.  In the playground we found a mixture of man made and nature patterns.

Mothering Sunday

This afternoon we enjoyed our Mothering Sunday at the Cathedral. A special thank you to Ria, Hannah and Grace for helping to collect up the buttonhole flowers. You did a fabulous job. Here are some lovely stories about 'Our Mummies' written by the 1FR girls.

Grace Bousimon

I love Mum kissing me. It makes me happy. She loves to cook and shop.

Cynthia Liu

My Mama kisses and  cuddles me. She has long black hair like me!

Cynthia and Grace haven't had the opportunity to publish their stories yet. Their stories are at drafting stage. The other groups have please see their stories below.
