Term 1 Week 3

Hello Everyone

Thank you for attending the 'Meet the Teacher' evening on Thursday night. I enjoyed meeting with you.

Science

During science this week the girls have been investigating what needs humans, animals and plants have; what are similar and different.

The girls worked together in groups to collect and draw pictures that showed their findings.

Week 4 starting Monday 17 February

On Tuesday the senior swimming trials are being held so it may not be possible for 1FR girls to go swimming. There will be swimming however on Wednesday.
The Parent Cocktail evening is on Thursday at 6.30pm. I look forward to seeing you there.

Home Learning

Monday - Thursday Girls to read their daily reader
Please encourage your daughters to recognise the letters d, g, q and e and practise their sounds along with the short vowel e as in egg as opposed to the long vowel e sound as in eat.

Welcome to 1FR

Welcome

We have had a very busy and exciting start to 2014 in Year 1.

We spent the first week getting to know each other and establish our new school routines! On the first day we read a story called 'The Kissing Hand' which was about a raccoon's first day at school and his mum shared a secret with him! Mrs Buller helped the girls to bake their own hand shaped cookie with a Hershey's kiss on it. We discussed ways that we could be responsible for getting ready for school each day.

Chinese New Year

We had a lot of fun celebrating Chinese New Year. We looked at some Chinese New Year artifacts that previous students had brought to school and watched a You Tube clip of exciting Chinese New Year celebrations. We made our own dragons and held our own parade in the afternoon.

Specialist Teachers

During the week we met our specialist teachers, Mrs Robinson for music, Miss Phillips cooled us down in the swimming pool and Madame Alpe has introduced us to French. Look at the seeds we planted with our new science teacher Mrs Maloney. We wonder if they will grow.

Sparkle and Stripy

We have named the two caterpillars on the swan plant Mrs Farr brought to school. They are called Sparkle and Stripy. We are amazed how much they are eating and how quickly they are growing.

Timetable

Here is a quick copy of the timetable. I will discuss it and give you a hard copy on Thursday.

Literacy

This week we have been listening to the sounds s, a and t make and learning the words I and is. We also looked at the word family 'at'.
Next week we will be learning;
Sounds - j, p, n, c/k
Words - at, am
Word family - an
I will be explaining how all this works at 'Meet the Teacher' 13 February 6pm.
Next week if you wish you can help your daughter find an object to bring each day that starts with these sounds (rather than letter) ie Monday j Tuesday p Wednesday n Thursday c or k.
