Dye from Nature and Patterns in Nature

Dye from Nature

When we were at Howick Historical Village the girls noticed that the linen and clothes were white. We decided to try to find out how the pioneers would have been able to add colour to their clothes.

We boiled up the different coloured plants to see if we could make dye from them.

When the liquid cooled down the girls tried to decide what colour they thought the dye might be. Then they put small squares of calico in the liquid to find out what colour if any was produced.

Science - Patterns in Nature

Mrs Maloney arranged bus stop investigations of patterns in nature.

Water Patterns

Sound Patterns

Some of us had to try very hard to blow the balloons up!

We looked very closely at patterns on nature like leaves, shells etc

We looked to find rainbow patterns with the prism

We made leaf rubbings to study the patterns

We also went treasure hunting in the sand with magnets

We are looking forward to finding out more about these patterns in nature during the next few weeks.
Our new inquiry is 'How The World Works'
The Central Idea is 'Exploring patterns helps us to understand the world we live in."
