Toys That Move

Thank you so much for remembering to pack in a moving toy today. The girls really enjoyed playing with the toys and working out how the different toys were able to move.
 
 
 
 Once the girls tried out the toys they classified them.

Thank you so much for bringing in such wonderful Harvest Festival boxes we had a lovely service and the girls wrote some stories which are shared below.

I decorated a box for Harvest Festival.

 I feel happy that a family will get my box.

Today I went to the Harvest Festival. 

I loved sharing my food.

The food is going in the van and then it goes to poor people. Surprise! There is some food in our cupboard!

I hope a family surprised with my box. 

I feel that they will love it.

Our spelling bee champion in Year One was Eloise Voss.  Here she is at the Spelling Bee.

Welcome to Term 2 Week 2

Howick Historical Village

What a great time we all had at the village on Monday. The girls' looked fabulous in their Victorian 

costumes.

School Visit

We had to approach the school quietly with our backs straight and holding our hands together.

We had to curtsey to our rather scary teacher Mrs Hill.

We had to sit quietly. We were not allowed to talk or fidget!

Jessica and Lily helped Mrs Hill sing the ABC song.

Wash Day

After collecting water from the well you had to scrub the clothes with homemade soap and a wash board.

We used the 'dolly' to twist and wash  the clothes in the water.

Then it is time to rinse the clothes.

Then you put it in the 'blue' water to make the clothes whiter.

Then it goes through the mangle.

Then hang on the line.

Now to try our hand at ironing.

Such a lot of hard work. We were told that as girls we would not be allowed to go to school on Mondays as we would have to help Mum do the washing all day!

Old Fashioned Toys

We found out that the toys were homemade because there were no toy shops near by. The Dads would make them but the children didn't have many toys because they were too busy doing chores!

Old Houses

We were amazed how small some of the houses were. We couldn't imagine sleeping with all of our family in one room. In one house there was just one wooden box to put all of their belongings in and it couldn't fit much in!

Learning Journal - When you have finished reading and commenting on the Learning Journal could you please return it to school so we have it ready to fill this term. Thank you

Harvest Festival - A friendly reminder that the girls are asked to bring a small box (eg shoe box) filled with basic food supplies such as pasta, pasta sauce, rice, milo, weetbix etc. The idea is that your daughter should be able to carry it to the front of the hall during the service (so not too heavy).
